Boone County Council on Aging

Seniors

Description and Mission

The mission of the Boone County Council on Aging is to connect Boone County's older adults with resources and support services that enable them to live independently and with dignity in the community. We provide care management for seniors 55 and older with low incomes or limited local family. Through our volunteer programs, we help many seniors continue to live in their own homes or serve the community in meaningful ways.

Activities:

Service learning students can serve in the following capacities: friendly visiting, grocery shopping, food pantry delivery, Adopt-a-Yard (leaf raking, snow shoveling, lawn mowing), home repairs, office assistance, and various special projects as they arise. We partner with Columbia Builds Youth and the City of Columbia on performing home repair projects with material costs less than $1000. Last semester we worked on 7 homes in two months and saved the community nearly $10,000 in labor costs.

Special emphasis and skills:

Customer Service, Data Compilation, Cultural & Social Assimilation, Cultural Awareness, Home Maintenance & Repair, In Home Assistance, Transportation Assistance, Carpentry, Weatherization, Event Planning, Fundraising, Social Justice, Office Administration

Extra Projects

Projects consistent with the organization’s mission are available; there are currently no special projects posted.
