Community Based Education
The Office for Financial Success - a service of the MU Dept of Personal Financial Planning and College of Human Environmental Sciences - is dedicated to improving the financial lives of individuals. The Office provides one-on-one counseling sessions (by appointment) as well as group workshops and seminars. Topics [for both workshops and individual sessions] range from financial problem areas (i.e., credit, debt management, budgeting, etc.) to productive areas of personal finance (i.e., investing, insurance, employee benefits, etc.). Individual sessions and workshops typically last an hour. Depending on the needs of the individual or group, this can be modified. This OFS mission is accomplished by meeting the following: Nonbiased financial information (no products sold/promoted) Educational approach to personal finance (providing options) Trained, skilled counselors Affordable services
Two primary activities: - Educational classes -- Help teaching personal finance curriculum to individuals in the first time homebuyer class. - One on one work -- Sit down one on one with individuals in the class that want assistance reviewing their credit reports, budgeting, etc. These activities will be done at the Columbia Housing Authority.
