Description and Mission

As the Boone County affiliate of CMCA, we empower individuals and families to achieve self-reliance through a variety of programs designed to fight poverty. The Wilkes Boulevard office assists community members in accessing programs including Boone County Circles, Head Start, Section 8 Rental Assistance, Employment & Training, Foster Grandparents, Weatherization, Housing Development, Energy Assistance, Family Support, and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.

Activities:

Students can serve with the Circles of Support Initiative each Thursday from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., off campus. Circles is an innovative poverty reduction program that assists individual families with setting and meeting their goals. Each session begins with a family style meal.

Special emphasis and skills:

Customer Service, Food Preparation and Serving, Reading Proficiency, Child Enrichment Activities, Client Counseling, Advocacy, Program Development, Citizen Involvement, Cultural & Social Assimilation, Early Childhood Emphasis, Life Skills Training, Youth Emphasis
