Basic Needs
The church doorstep is a frequent destination for people in desparate need. Most churches cannot fully meet the needs of every homeless family, single mom, or hungry child who asks for help. Working Together in the Gap, Love INC enables churches and ministries in a community to pool their resources and outreach services so that those in need are not turned away.In the early phases of our Love INC’s development, we identified four priority needs: financial counseling and support, access to quality used furniture, affordable auto repair for low income and single parent households, and expanded access to recovery support for people fighting addiction.
Students can serve in one of two projects, either our Professional Closet initiative or our Furniture Bank initiative. The Furniture Bank initiative is more than just a furniture bank, but also a repair shop for furniture, appliances and bicycles; and a resale store to sell these same items at a low cost. The Professional Closet initiative is to build a network for clothes for women seeking to re-enter the job market. Each project will require the drafting of a business plan, scouting for a location, and testing its success in small pilot projects.
