Description and Mission

Alternative Community Training provides support to individuals with disabilities as they become full and valued members of five areas of service: Supported Employment, ACT Works, Community Integration, and Community Living and In-Home Services. We assist with daily activities, community integration, employment and independent living skills with the goal of helping individuals live as independently as possible.


Service-learning students can serve in either the Day Program, Behavior Development Services, or within Administration Services on an IT special project. ACT has the following volunteer opportunities this semester: Behavior Development Services: Visual Support Assistant- Looking for one student to assist the Behavior Development Program in making visual supports (posters, visual schedules and social stories) for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. Social Development and Employment Group- Looking for 3 students to assist in the preparation and implementation of a social development and employment group for 8 individuals with developmental disabilities. Students would work with Behavior Consultant/Program Manager and assist in running the group. Monday and Wednesday afternoon availability needed. Day Services: Looking for 2-3 energetic and enthusiastic people to assist in developing activities. Volunteers would work directly with Day Services Activities Coordinator developing and preparing art/craft activities. Administration: Assistance in development in various areas of company website and intranet programs. HTML, CSS, javascript knowledge is a must. Wordpress experience preferred. Volunteer would work directly with IT Department and have direct supervision.
