Description and Mission

The Infection Control Department is dedicated to preventing healthcare acquired infections in patients, staff, and visitors to our healthcare system. We do this while ensuring regulatory compliance with both goverment laws and regulations as well as many professional organizations guidelines for practice.

Activities:

The ICD does active surveillance for infections within our system. We work with local public health departments. to ensure that diseases that may pose a risk to the community are appropriately followed. We investigate cases of healthcare aquired infections to look for trends and failures to prevent future infections. Education of patients, visitors and staff about disease processes and interventions to protect our patients, staff and visitors is an integral part of our missoin. Investigation of any outbreaks, clusters or other increases in infection rates is critical to control and decrease spread of infections. The ICD also follows all emerging diseases and is tasked with working with physicians, nurses and others to ensure our readiness for possible cases.
