Description and Mission

Refugee and Immigration Services contracts with the US Department of State as the only agency to to resettle foreign refugees in the Mid-Missouri area. Services include housing assistance, health, education, job placement, case management, and activities of daily living. Our goal is to empower refugees to become self-sufficient as quickly as possible.

As a small organization, our office relies heavily on volunteers and interns to provide services to our clients, refugees resettling in the Mid Missouri area. Each semester our office facilities a number of internships and volunteer opportunities, varying from hands on Case Management Assistance to Communications and Marketing positions. While opportunities vary greatly, and everyday is an adventure in itself, volunteers and interns may find themselves working at the front desk and greeting refugees as they come to the office. They also work closely with case managers to provide social services and necessary transportation to refugee clients. All positions will do their part to be empower and encourage refugees towards self-sufficiency. Tutoring volunteers will work with adults who are struggling to learn English to empower them to learn a new language. Communications and Outreach volunteers may manage office social media platforms, facilitate partnerships in the community, or plan events.
