Description and Mission

Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center provides horseback riding therapy to people with disabilities in the mid-Missouri area. Cedar Creek provides equestrian therapy to children and adults with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. Therapeutic riding provides an opportunity for individuals to develop towards their fullest potential using the horse as a catalyst for success.


Cedar Creek needs 100 volunteers for each term to serve as sidewalkers. Persons with horse experience can serve as handlers. Volunteer Training is Monday, March 9th, 6-8 pm at the Center. Spring Session begins the same week. Starts: March 11th and session Ends: May 9th. (Spring Break OFF) Volunteers serve 2 hours a week the following times: Wednesday from 3 PM -5 PM; Wednesday from 5 PM - 7 PM; Thursday from 1:30 PM - 4:15 PM; Thursday from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM; Friday from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM ; or Saturday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. We also have opportunities for 2 hours of horse preparation before the first class on each day. Our riders will depend on your attendance through the completion of the assignment. Students who need 20 hours or less will need to choose 1 shift; students who need 35 hours will need 2 shifts. Internships available too.
