Description and Mission

The mission of the Columbia Public Schools English Language Learners (ELL) program is to provide effective and age-appropriate English language instruction (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), and to support English Language Learners to achieve in all content areas, grades K-12. CPS currently has over 800 ELL students enrolled from countries all over the world, with 26% speaking Spanish, 15% speaking Korean, as well as students from Cambodia, Burma, Somali, and Bosnia, to name a few. A highly educated and dedicated team of teachers enhances our ability to meet our academic mission and link our diverse community to our schools. Through the inclusion of parents, community members, community resources, parent liaisons, and interpreters, the Columbia School District works to provide a well-rounded support base for all of the ELL families in our schools.
